Top 10 ways to deal with Maths
It is quiet understood that very few individuals like math. People make errors that could easily be remedied by reviewing their answers. However, even the worst math performance could be turned around into a successful endeavor by adopting better attitudes for success. Mathematics is important in engineering, business, science
and thus every walk of life. Modern mathematics has advanced greatly thanks to the incredible computing power of today's computers, but it also dragged kids into more miserable situation so here are some ways of how to deal with maths hope it helps.
and thus every walk of life. Modern mathematics has advanced greatly thanks to the incredible computing power of today's computers, but it also dragged kids into more miserable situation so here are some ways of how to deal with maths hope it helps.
1)Try Remember the language first
Maths has its
own confusing language, try to learn that language first think on it and
it will make your maths a little bit easy than before, here are some of
the examples:
Algebraic Symbols
Sum + , Add + , In addition +, More than +, Increased +, In excess +, Greater +, Decreased
by -, Less than - , Subtract -, Difference -, Diminished -, Reduce - ,
Remainder -, Times as much x, Percent of x, Product x, Interest on x ,
Per / , Divide / , Quotient / , Quantity ( ) , Is = , Was = , Equal = ,
Will be = , Results = , Greater than > , Greater than or equal to
>= , Less than < , Less than or equal to <=
Algebraic Expressions
Ten more than x (x + 10), A number added to 5 (5 + x), A number increased by 13 (x + 13), 5 less than 10 (10 - 5), A number decreased
by 7 (x - 7), Difference between x and 3 (x - 3), Difference between 3
and x (3 - x), Twice a number (2x), Ten percent of x (0.10x), Ten times x
(10x), Quotient of x and 3 (x/3), Quotient of 3 and x (3/x), Five is
three more than a number (5 = x + 3), The product of 2 times a number is
10 (2x = 10), One half a number is 10 (x/2 = 10), Five times the sum of
x and 2 [5(x + 2)], Seven is greater than x (7 > x), Five times the
difference of a number and 4 [5(x - 4)], Ten subtracted from 10 times a
number is that number plus 5 (10x - 10 = x + 5), The sum of 5x and 10
is equal to the product of x and 15 (5x + 10 = 15x), The sum of two
consecutive integers (x) + (x + 1), The sum of two consecutive even
integers (x) + (x + 2), The sum of two consecutive odd integers (x) + (x
+ 2)
2) Help yourself
Here are some few things that you can do to help yourself right now.
- Pay attention in class. If you're sitting at a place where you can't see, hear, or concentrate, ask your instructor if you may move to a different seat.
- You will be looking at your notes to study, so write clearly and neatly.
- Review the math tables, concepts and process that you need.
- Try some practice problems on the internet or in your math book to solve.
- Have a good night sleep. After a certain period of time with no sleep, no new information can be retained.
- Take a warm shower before going to bed, warm water should reach from back of your head to your neck as it relaxes your brain and making it active which will help you in remembering tough formulas.
3) Word Problems
Look at what is
being asked (the last sentence, almost all of the time). Choose an
operation to solve the problem. Will you Add? Subtract? Multiply?
Divide? Look for main points which we term as keywords, such as "more
than", "product", and "divide". (E.g) In theorems read it first think on
what is being asked now almost all of the time the theorem begins with
"IF" this is the statement of the theorem till the word "then" after
"then" it is the proof of the theorem (e.g) "IF" Two triangles are
corresponding to each other having one angle and two sides congruent
"THEN" the the triangles are also congruent. So always go for the key
words first.
4) Microsoft Mathematics
It is a downloadable free educational software, designed for Microsoft Windows and it allows the users to solve math and science problems. Do try it :)
5) Search Tutorial Videos
You can't stop
and rewind the teacher in the classroom, and most children are
excessively modest or humiliated to put their hands up and pose a
question. Suppose if it is possible that you could get the teacher to
head over things once more, in a well disposed and straightforward way.
Hunt down math exercise features (tutorials) and download what you like.
6) Algebra tips
- Longer algebra problems are as easy as the shorter ones, sometimes even more easier.
- Always follow the BODMAS rule.
- You can rearrange addition or multiplication problems if only one of them exist in a problem, never rearrange them if they are both together. Like you can rearrange 2 + 5 + 7 + 8 or 3 x 4 x 5 x 6 but not 2 + 5 x 4 + 6 .
7) Practice as much as you can
I will
personally prefer to practice, practice and practice as practice makes a
man perfect. Try to practice each and every equation 3 times and then
when you cover up your exercise try to solve each question 1 more time
and trust me if you follow all these steps you will be playing outside
not worrying about your maths paper in exam while others will be
depressed, maths will look like a fun game to you.
8) Read the question once carefully and translate it in your own language
Read your math
problem once and translate it in your own local language as it will help
and will stay in mind for a longtime make Mnemonic of difficult
problems and sing along as it is scientifically proved that it helps in
learning easily.
9) Always be eager to help
Those who can
teach others have a true grasp of the material. It is possible that
during the group studies some of the your fellows lag behind. Try to
help that person, even if your own work will take longer. This will not
only help the others but the process of explaining to someone else and
breaking things down into bite sized chunks will increase your own
understanding. It will help you understand at a fundamental level what
the stumbling blocks are for the topic, which will help you in the long
run
10) Survive maths tests
- Eat a healthy breakfast.
- Make your work neat. Make your numbers clear so they won't look like another number.
- Be confident. Say in your mind,"I can do this", or "I'm going to to this test in the class".
- Check your answers. Regardless of the fact that you think you got everything right, you could have easily committed a senseless error.
- Do not wait to study during the night prior to the exam.
